One thing I love about farming is you never know what kind of day it will be, or is that what I hate about farm. Cow gets stuck between to big rocks and can't get out. Goats sneak threw a weak spot in the fence and go in the road. Babies are born, it has been a couple very exciting days!

I was not born a farmer, or was I. When growing up I was always afraid of the animals. We had a cat here and there but living on a busy road they always seem to turn up missing. We spent some weekends on Bartletts farm, then I only observed from a distance. Watching the boys ride the cows, feed and do the chores. I remember those day fondly. Then in 1999 we got our first goat and it been all uphill since them.. Adding critters here and there, finding my farming way. In 2006 we bought this old farm and began working towards selling legal raw milk. That could be a story in itself. For the most part it has went very well. This year adding cow shares and a few new things to make my job easier and give some insurance that the milk we work so hard for is sold.
Now to just find farm help so I can still take vacations and go camping like my father and mother instilled in my blood. Till next time!

Life on the farm, is always a new adventure. Maybe that is why I love it so much. Today my greatest enjoyment was a Switch a electrician friend hooked up for me, One flip and my portable vacuum pump was humming! Simple things can make life so much easier. It is right above cow 3, so saving me many steps. I am thinking this week we will have a new baby cow, how long can Jenny Bean keep her baby? She was due February 1st and is as big as a house. She is bred to ABS Hallmark, I am thinking it is a bull calf. He will be call Barret. For one of our lovely cow share holder Donna. She is a special lady who loves all animals. Worked for Save a Pat for years helping out many cats. If it turns out to me a heifer then we will have to think up a new name. Part of the fun is naming the critters. They all learn their name and come when call. Who ever knew a cow and goat would be so smart. Today is Super Sunday, so early afternoon chores then Pizza and snack with my two legged children. Always a pleasure for Timmy and I. Till next time!

The weather is wonderful and all the critters are out grazing. This has been a wonderful transition time on the farm. We sold a few cows so we could get back to personal care.
I am now Working with NYS to get back my NYS permit to sell cows milk. I hope to price it comparetive to the grocery store price and sell all the cows give me. Anyone who buys milk from me knows I try to add that personal touch. In the future we hope to open a little show- with all local good.

We are getting excited about new baby goats. Our first kiddings are at the end of Febuary.
I am looking forward to milking goats and a more managable number. 15!
I have some faithful customers who plan to return this year. I also have received many new calls. I did not realize there would be such a huge demand. So, I have started a list, if you have called me in the last few wks and would like to be put on the list please e-mail. Names and Phone numbers.
Other farm plans are pasture chickens and a few turkeys,
We are hoping for baby piggies in 3-4 months. and agian will raise the pasture pork. Oh it is so good. Spring is always a very excited on the farm!

Goats milk Is Seasonal

Sad to say the goat milk is dried up for the winter. Our kidding will begin In late February and the goats milk will be flowing again. I want to thank all my wonderful costomers who just loved the goats milk and plan to return in March. We also will be offering more goats milk so if you are interested just give me a call.

We also sold all the goat we plan tto for 2007.
We wil have buck kids day old for $25. to bottle
raise yourself. Registered purebred buck kids
lamancha and Nubian $200. Grades $100.
We will be offering a few milkers $200. and
a couple doe kids- starting at $200.

I am so excited as I read more I am finding out that we are so close to Organic and can brag to be Grass Fed. I was under the fool knowledge like others that if you feed grain your animals are not considdered grass fed fresh, health benifits- but that is not true the amount of grain I feed make my cows and goats milk have all the healthy benifited with large amounts of omega-3 fatty acid as well as CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). Many studies have shown increasing our intake of both these acids helps prevent and even begins to heal many health problems faced today, including heart disease, diabetes and many cancers.
I have also been research Organic and I am hapy to say we have made all of our own organic hay this year so far with our first cutting. Life on the farm is a daily learning advent!!

Grains whats the deal

I have many people ask me "do you feed grains." Much research has been done on all grass fed verse adding some grains. Many of the new farms never let their cows out side and push silage, grians and the poor cows never get out for sun and grass. Shortening there life to just a couple years. There is a movement that some of us want milk for animals that graze soak up the sun and only have small amount of grains. I know that is how I started farming looking for fresh raw milk for my family from cows that live a long life, get outside and have NO hormones or antibiotics. So, I got my own goats and cows. I have spent the last few weeks reading all I can find on only grass fed. I have also talked to nutritionist, vets and Organic farmers. This is what I have arrived at to this point. Large amount of grians (which I have never fed) Can be bad and change the components of the milk. When large amount of grains are fed they case acidosis in the rumen- one of the cow or goat stomichs. When all grass fed there are enzines in milk making it more healthy. This is also true when only small amounts of grains are fed. The milk is very healthy with more nutrition value., then milk from cows that have all grain and silige feed. We work hard to have well rounded healthy animals giving free choice hay, grasses, sunshine and fresh water. Giving small amounts of grain with minerals our local soils are lacking, working to keep a healthy animal. I hope the helps some of you who do not farm have a small understanding of a anmials health. I will work constantly to keep our goats and cows healthy and happy. There is so much to read and learn you can not get all your information from one source. I am trying to gather from many sources and then do what is best for my critters, my family and supply good clean healthy milk. In closing I would like to ad that I am not certified Organic ***BUT I feed hay that is not sprayed or have any chemicals added we do not treat our land. I also have talked to my grain supplier in detail and they also do not spray or treat their crops.

We are working hard to put up 7 acres of high tensil electric fencing. I can not wait to see the cows and goats out on all that pasture. We are milking 19 goats getting about 20 gallons of goats milk a day. I am on the search for a bull calf to drink some of that milk.
I am also milking Clover my jersey cow her milk supply is up some due I am sure to all this wonderful sunshine. My other cow is due to calf end of July.
Kassy has 2 pigs to show in Niagara County fair. Amy just got two pigs also one female we hope to have bred in late summer. The other will be for meat.
We are really getting the farm in shape with the nice weather. We just love the new farm!

Low fat milk doesn’t help you lose weight; in fact, it may make you gain weight2, and ithas also been linked to lower fertility3. Milk fat is a vital and importantpart of milk! Milk fat helps you absorb the calcium and properly utilizethe protein found in the milk.In cow’s milk, the milk fat contains the important saturated fatty acidbutyric acid, which is known for its antimicrobial properties. It is good to see the cream layer rise to the top of a gallon of fresh, raw cow’s milk!
Whereas the cream will rise to the top of cow’s milk, you will not seevisible fat in goat’s milk. Although goat’s milk is rich in fat, the fatglobules are smaller, making the milk naturally homogenized. Like cow’smilk, goat’s milk also contains an important antimicrobial saturated fat –capric acid.
For some people, goat’s milk is more easily tolerated than cow’s milk. TRIPLE-PLAY: WULTZEN “ANTI-STIFFNESS” FACTOR, CLA, AND X-FACTOR
Raw and grass-fed dairy contain other three beneficial components of whichyou may not be aware!The Wulzen Factor, the anti-arthritic factor found in the butterfat of rawdairy, is destroyed by pasteurization. According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, “it protects against calcification of the joints--degenerative arthritis--as well as hardening of the arteries, cataracts and calcificationof the pineal gland”.7 CLA, or conjugated linolenic acid, is a fatty acid that may fight cancer and help with weight control. This nutrient is in short supply in the Americandiet, but is found in the milk fat of grass fed cattle. Feedlot cows do notproduce sufficient CLA, so supermarket milk is devoid of this nutrient. X-factor, or Activator X, is a component of butterfat that was studied inthe 1930s by nutrition researcher and dentist Weston A. Price. It appearedto be a catalyst for nutrient absorption, particularly protein and minerals.Very little is known about this unique nutrient, except that it is foundin the butterfat of cows that graze on spring grasses.8

Pasteurized yogurt has to have the beneficial bacteria added back in, eventhough they were naturally present in the raw milk in the first place!That’s because the pasteurization process kills the beneficial bacteria!Yet, it is these beneficial, lactic-acid friendly bacteria that help wardoff pathogens.9Did you know that raw milk doesn’t spoil? Spoilage occurs with pasteurized milk, because the heat process destroys all the friendly bacteria, butleaves some putrefying bacteria that spoil the milk. Have you ever smelleda carton of pasteurized milk past its expiration date? That’s spoiled milk!However, in raw milk, the lactic acid bacteria use the milk sugar lactose asfuel, and produce lactic acid as a by-product. The lactic acid makes themilk sour, not spoil. Day at the farmHello- This is my first attemp to add to my web page. What a busy week. We are now milking 15 goats and one cow. Our baby total is 17 buck kids and 12 does. We are very happy with the does we got this year. The udders on our lamancha are awesome. Yesterday I sent in the Raw goats milk sample for testing to receive my permit from NYS. Of course there is already a glitch but I hope I have it worked out. Monday we have a herd evaluation done by Quailty Milk Contol all required by NYS. Then I just have to wait for results and NYS to give me a permit. Tim got the bulk tank working and it has lots of pure white goats milk in it.We have had a steady flow of costmers for raw cows milk with many phone calls each day. I am also selling just about every fresh egg my chickens can give me. :O)I just had my second hatch of the year with 28 chicks. I have 12 three week old Chicks for sale for $20 takes all.
